Frequently asked questions
Usually 31–64 days by ocean, depending on the port pair. From Vitória, where most of Airlift’s Brazil cargo loads, New York takes 36–60 days, Houston 38–57, Savannah 51–62 and Port Everglades 31–64. These ranges are P10–P90 figures from Airlift’s own shipments, not carrier brochure estimates; for other Brazilian ports, Airlift confirms the routing and transit when you request a quote.
Vitória, the stone port of Espírito Santo, carries most of Airlift’s Brazil–USA volume; Rio de Janeiro, Pecém and Santos also ship on this lane. Pecém, in the northeast, is the closest of them to the U.S. Gulf. Rio and Santos serve the stone quarries and industrial belt of the southeast. Cargo arrives mainly at New York, Houston, Savannah and Port Everglades.
This lane runs mainly as full containers (FCL): 20′, 40′ and 40′ high-cube, with flat-rack and open-top equipment for stone blocks and machinery. Granite and marble blocks are dense, so a 20′ container is often the practical choice even when the cargo would fit a 40′ by volume. U.S. road weight limits, not the container, set the ceiling.
In Brazil: a commercial invoice, a packing list and an export declaration filed through SISCOMEX, Brazil’s customs platform. In the U.S.: an ISF (Importer Security Filing) submitted before the container is loaded, plus a customs entry backed by a customs bond. Airlift coordinates the U.S. filings through its licensed customs broker network.
It depends on your product’s HTS code and the U.S. trade measures in force on the day of entry, not on the freight cost. Before you book, estimate landed cost for your exact HTS code with the free tariff simulator. For stone and minerals, the classification turns on whether the material is raw, cut or finished, so confirm the subheading with a licensed customs broker before you ship.
